Sustainability Initiatives
Here are a few initiatives we have already implemented within the group:
- In 2018, we installed 9100 solar panels at Les carrières du fond des Vaulx in Wellin on a surface of 6 ha. These produce 2 562 500 kWh per year and cover 40 % of the quarry's yearly consumption.
- At Bioterra, we installed solar panels with a capacity of 259,4 kWp, the average yearly production is about 220 490 kWh. 81,80 % of the electrical yield is consumed at the site and only 18,80 % is injected on the public network. This amount represents 13 % of the total electricity consumption of Bioterra in Genk.
We are looking to increase the current solar power capacity by 800 kWPp up to 1060 kWp, which would generate 940 000 kWh per year. This amount would increase our share of green electricity to 55% of total consumption. Along that we are looking for further optimization with the use of battery packs. - In 2013 in Wielsbeke, we had a windmill installed. It has a 2,3 MW wind turbine and an annual energy production of 14 600 MWh. It provides 4 200 households with renewable energy each year.
- Our sites are being renewed.
- We are replacing diesel machinery with electric ones, which are fed by green energy.
- We care about our sites creating green areas for nature.
- We are investing in R&D for a water battery, to lower emissions of our dredgers.
- We are putting electric cars on the road instead of petrol cars.
All new investments are looked at from an eco friendly perspective which is supported by the board of directors.
