History

1875

Johannes De Cloedt, a Flemish civil contractor, took the step from shore to water and started to specialise in hydraulic works, mainly maintenance dredging works in Oostende.
Gery De Cloedt is now representing the 6th generation.

1981

The family started an aggregate company in the harbour of Nieuwpoort (Belgium) - NHM. Later on, new water bound aggregate terminals were developed in the maritime ports of Oostende and Brugge.

1991

The company, well known as “NV Baggerwerken Decloedt en Zoon”, merged with “Dredging International” to form the holding “DEME”.

1997

Group De Cloedt’s first inland terminal in Brugge was operational.

1998

NHM took over a water-bound aggregates company along the Leie, thus establishing their new site NHM Izegem. It became the springboard for the delivery of aggregates by barge over the inland channels, which became the speciality of Group De Cloedt.

2000

After 10 years with the holding DEME, the family withdrew from the holding and sold them the rights to keep using the name “NV Baggerwerken Decloedt en Zoon”. With this sale, ir. Gery De Cloedt, started to shape his Group.

2013

DC Environment took over Solaz, strengthening its presence in the Walloon part of Belgium for the clean up of the region.

Group De Cloedt also secured the Société d’Exploitation des Carrières d’Yvoir (SECY). The new owner is one of its subsidiaries, Granulats et Sables de Wallonie. This sale is part of Group De Cloedt’s strategy which aims to strengthen its position in aggregates.

2014

Group De Cloedt also procured the quarry Les Carrières du Fond des Vaulx in Wellin, to strengthen its position in the aggregates business.

2015

Group De Cloedt acquired DC Ostend, formerly Sand Harrier, of 2700m3. With the acquisition, we are now independent of external suppliers, and the ship serves mainly Thyborøn and the Group's other sites in Denmark, but also other customers in Northern Europe.
