Description of the works

On 14 December 2018, at the headquarters of the Maritime Office in Gdynia, two contracts were signed for the execution of construction works as part of the project "Modernization of the system of protective breakwaters in the Northern Port in Gdańsk":

  • for construction works in the field of renovation and extension of the existing island breakwater.
  • for construction works in the field of construction of a new protective breakwater.

Group De Cloedt has provided the delivery of 650,000 m3 gravel and sand mixture for the new breakwater. After 2 years of hard work, the breakwater is operational, which will increase the dependence on the ports against adverse weather conditions. Breakwater, better known as a seawall, are important large-scale infrastructure projects that help increase the capacity of a port, but also improve logistics and efficiency.

The breakwater in the Northern Port in Gdańsk and the modernization of its system is one of the first DREDGING & OFFSHORE works for our company in Poland. We hope that this branch of our business will continue to develop, helping us to gain a leading position in our domestic market.

Our added value

Our ship, the DC Orisant (equipped with DP2 technology), and her crew and the MS RIO were tasked with being operational 6 days a week, 24 hours a day. During the period of actual execution, more than 15,000 m³ per week were delivered and installed from the extraction zone in the Baltic Sea (own concession).

As part of a consortium, Group De Cloedt will continue to dredge the fairway leading up to the port of Gdansk.
